This role plans and performs laboratory experimentation in the development of new product formulations, integrating novel technologies into product offerings. The individual leads projects and/or people as part of an integrated cross functional team while fulfilling the role of subject matter expert in the fundamental chemistries of detergent formulations.

What we offer

  • Independently develop experimental designs and work plans in the development of new products to meet desired performance metrics.
  • Leads projects and/or people as part of an integrated, cross functional project team. This includes working with marketing counterparts to identify consumer/customer needs and translating these needs into technical specifications.
  • Actively leverages individual capabilities and experience in the area of formulation chemistry while developing the core competencies/capabilities of the Formulation Sciences team.
  • Understands and can evaluate chemical structure/function relationships pertaining to material performance delivered from a formulation matrix
  • Leverages and manages external technology collaborations, developing relationships aligned to the overall SPC technology strategies.
  • Works closely with packaging, process development, and manufacturing during development, and commercialization of relevant products.
  • Records detailed observation and data from experiments performed. Keeps lab notebook records current and in good order as a working legal document.
  • Plans and schedules project tasks related to laboratory experiments and consumer trials.
  • Reports project status to team members and management as required.
  • Responsible for planning, interpretation, quality and presentation of data. Reports progress/issues on a timely basis.
  • Contributes to the solution of assigned problems through development/modifications of test procedures.
  • Keep current in cutting edge chemistry and supplier opportunities to meet customer needs.
  • Runs standard and non-standard chemical, physical, or application tests to obtain data to evaluate composition and performance of competitive offerings.
  • Assists department staff in lab demonstrations for training programs and customer visits.
  • Checks and maintains inventories of raw materials and supplies and maintains work spaces.
  • Responsible for safe working conditions (handles dangerous equipment and hazardous chemicals). Is aware of hazards associated with work assigned, observes safe work practices, keeps equipment neat, clean and in safe operating condition, and maintains good housekeeping standards.
  • Responsible for following all applicable Federal, State, and Local health, safety, and environmental regulations, as per corporate health, safety and environmental policies.

Who we are looking for

  • Bachelor degree in chemistry, biology, physics or related science.
  • 3 to 4 years of lab experience with working knowledge of product performance assessment and/or instrumentation preferred.
  • Self motivated, creative, good oral and written communication.
  • CPG experience a plus.
  • Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Works effectively in teams
  • Creatively minded with a passion for innovation
  • Strong sense of scientific integrity and rigor
  • Experience required to efficiently perform a variety of research experiments and tests including setting up and operation of apparatus and equipment.
