We believe advancing diversity, equity and inclusion is the right thing to do for our employees, communities and customers and partners – it is a key driver of creativity, innovation, and invention.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI)
The diversity of our employees, their backgrounds, experiences, talents, knowledge, creativity, and the appreciation of all their individual differences are the foundation of our company and the way we do business. Together, we get stronger with every step we take to create more united, equitable and inclusive workplace and world.
Our holistic approach to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) spans multiple dimensions, including gender, race, ethnicity and internationality, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, disability, and generations. As pioneers at heart for the good of generations, we are fostering an environment where everyone has the tools to be successful – at work and in the community.
To help create a more inclusive, equitable future for all generations we are focused on three core areas: Increasing diverse representation, ensuring equal access to opportunities and education, and inspiring a sense of belonging so all employees feel empowered to bring their whole selves to work. We are steadfast in our journey to further embed diversity, equity and inclusion into every aspect of our business, from our company culture to our suppliers to society at-large.
Steven Essick, President Henkel North America
While we have always strived for an inclusive environment at Henkel, we recognize there is much more to do to strengthen our own culture and communities to be truly respectful and appreciative of everyone. We are integrating equity in every stage of employee life cycle from recruitment to development. Education ourselves to be better allies is core and we provide a continuous stream of learning resources and activities on DEI topics.
Advancing Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) requires creating a culture that values and elevates different viewpoints and perspectives. Employee Resource Groups, or ERGs, are one of the most engaging and important ways Henkel does this and is proud to have more than 12 different ERGs representing Asian Americans, Black/African Americans, Hispanic/Latin X, LGBTQ+, military/veterans, women and more.
We recognize that we cannot accomplish the equality we're seeking alone. Caring for communities is deep in our culture and we commit to taking action and supporting organizations that champion social justice, education and awareness.
To increase access to education and help close the equity gap, we have invested over $1M in scholarship and internship programs by partnering with organizations such as Inroads, UNCF, Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) and Pathways to Education.
Our employees care and act to help improve life in their communities. They volunteer to support causes that range from education and skills training to fighting food insecurity, serving health and housing needs, to protecting our planet, and championing equity and inclusion.
OUR CUSTOMERS AND PARTNERS
Our Diversity Supplier Program helps to link high-performing diverse suppliers to Henkel strategy to ensure inclusive and dynamic supply base and support the growth of minority suppliers. In 2022 Henkel purchased $93M with women and minority-owned businesses and continues to mentor Minority Business Enterprises through coaching and information sessions.
Henkel North America’s DEI Council is comprised of leaders from across the company who are responsible to explore, develop and implement initiatives to embed DEI within their functions or business units, consult with senior leadership and share best practices.
Our brands advocate for positive change. For example, our Got2B line of haircare products partnered with Ditch the Label to raise awareness of cyber-bullying and help empower young people to be themselves.
