The History of the BONDERITE Brand

The success story of Henkel Adhesive Technologies began with a shortage of adhesives at the company's headquarters in Düsseldorf after the First World War. As a result, the company decided to manufacture adhesives for sealing its own product packaging, for example, for our laundry detergents.  

The introduction of BONDERITE to Henkel Adhesive Technologies in the 1980s reaffirmed the company’s commitment to expanding offerings in metal forming, machining, cleaning, coating, and surface treatments; and maintaining a track record of reliability, sustainability and performance.

The Purpose of the BONDERITE Brand

At the forefront in its markets, the BONDERITE brand is committed to being a premier producer and supplier of surface technology and process solutions that create competitive advantages across the industrial manufacturing marketplace. The brand enables production processes that deliver superior cost-in-use and operational efficiency for customers and partners through a broad portfolio of cleaners, surface treatments, and coating and lubricant materials, along with engineering services.

Innovations from the BONDERITE Brand

Technology is essential to being on the cutting edge of the manufacturing industry and BONDERITE is committed to helping customers and partners maintain a competitive advantage through digitalization and innovation.

For example, the BONDERITE® E-CO DMC process control system provides support to customers in their transition to Industry 4.0. It’s a total solution that opens up possibilities to run complex chemical processes, supporting remote monitoring, allowing data storage and analysis, and integrating with laptops, tablets or smartphones. This enables remote measurement and monitoring, and users can program the E-CO DMC by automating adjustments to control their processes. The notifications help to make sure the right people get the right information at the right moment, driving further efficiency and cross-functional collaboration.

Sustainability from the BONDERITE Brand

Sustainability in production along the value chain is a key factor in meeting Henkel and our partners’ goals and BONDERITE has introduced innovative ways to contribute. As a key component in the high-volume production of aluminum cans, BONDERITE low-temperature cleaning solutions play a vital role in key sustainability pillars of energy, water consumption, circularity, and safety. Operating at a lower temperature, the use of the cleaner reduces energy use to reach the same results. There is also less water loss due to evaporation and less foam which optimizes water use. The innovation also improves employee comfort working around the washer and allows for a faster restart of operations.

Additionally, the BONDERITE brand produces coatings for metal roof substrates - a thin organic coating used to protect galvanized steel in architectural applications, including commercial and residential roofs. This product extends the life of a roof and reflects more sunlight than conventional roof coatings. This aids in reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions for customers and conserves water during the application process by eliminating the need for post-treatment rinsing.

The metal pretreatment industry strives for innovation and sustainability, and the BONDERITE brand has gone one step further in proving their commitment to delivering with the launch of a unique program called “BONDERITE goes around the world.” The program features inspirational stories in a memorable way – by following a very special chair on an amazing journey.

The chair has a steel seat that has been treated by BONDERITE® M-PP metal pretreatment technology and aluminum sides that have been treated with BONDERITE light metal finishing products, creating an eye-catching chair that directly shows the product’s performance.

The BONDERITE Chair travels from beaches to famous cultural landmarks and production lines worldwide. It has also visited customers who shared testimonials about how BONDERITE surface treatments have created real value for their specific applications, showing the importance of bringing products to people in innovative ways and ensuring they will never forget the experience of learning more about the brand.
